We live in accordance with our deep, driving desire. It is this desire at the time of death that determines what our next life is to be. We will come back to earth to work out the satisfaction of that desire.
But not for those who are free from desire; they are free because all their desires have found fulfillment in the Self. They do not die like the others; but realizing Brahman (Cosmic), they merge in Brahman. So it is said:
“When all the desires that surge in the heart are renounced, the mortal becomes immortal.
When all the knots that strangle the heart are loosened, the mortal becomes immortal, Here in this very life only.”
Brihadaranyaka Upanishad 4.4.6-7
I was watching a documentary on Elbert Einsteins E = mc2 famous equation. It started with a its first chapter, The Desires.
It was desire which made scientist to think what actually is going around them. It was desired to come up with some good innovation and help in betterment of pan humans.
I introduced the above paragraph to link up Human thoughts with science.
Nice quotation.!!!
But i think its very hard to kill your desires, because in this materialistic world we are attracted to things, diverting ourselves from the divine goal. The Holy Book shri Bhagvad Gita says we have to practice some of rituals to gain command on our desires.
I know that Necessity is mother of Invention and our desires make things necessity for us. I am not against desires. We should have desire to move further in life. But desires should motivate us positively to move further in life.
But, I think that in today’s society We make desire materialistic and we suffer whole life because of desires. We should know difference between Dreams, Desires, Necessities and compulsions.
I think that I made point about desire because I believe in Hinduism and we try to lessen my desire to balance my current and future.
Nice explanation power
I m not against desires too , I meant that desires are very much dependent on the individual perspective. A human life contains many aspects and they are all interlinked some how.
And yes as u have mentioned, desires are helpful in shaping up ones life.
The desire to know is natural to good men.
